Creating Jobs
Wrote the Go Oregon! stimulus plan which funded $175 million in critical maintenance and energy efficiency projects, creating thousands of employment opportunities in all 36 counties. (SB 338)
Led the way to repair and modernize Oregon’s aging transportation system while creating 4,600 jobs each year for five years. (HB 2001)
Extended benefits and eliminated taxes on benefits for unemployed Oregonians, helping those hardest hit by the recession. (HB 2203, HB 2649)
Improving Health Care
Expanded access to quality affordable health care, covering 80,000 children and an additional 35,000 low-income adults. (HB 2116)
Expanded the Oregon Prescription Drug Purchasing Program to lower prescription prices for more Oregonians. (SB 362)
Maintained Oregon Project Independence which provides home care to allow seniors to stay in their homes. (SB 5529)

Protecting Schools and Children
Protected funding to ensure a full school year and prevented drastic classroom cuts during this recession. (SB 5540, SB 5554)
Maintained Oregon’s critical investment in Head Start, to help 3 & 4 year-olds prepare for school. (SB 5519)
Passed measures to increase child support enforcement and protect children from sexual abuse. (SB 123, SB 47, SB 48, SB 373)
Was the chief architect of Safe Families, which allows community programs to provide medium and long-term child care for families in crisis. (SB 991)
Keeping Us Safe
Prioritized and funded 24/7 State Trooper patrol on Oregon’s major highways. (HB 3508)
Cracked down on the home cooking of meth, significantly reducing number of Oregon meth labs, making our communities safer. (SB 570)
